Secrets behind Sex Toys
I helped a Russian client develop a customized intimate wellness product series under the MAXUS brand. The work included factory selection, product benchmarking, silicone material upgrade, motor-performance adjustment, waterproofing requirement upgrade, packaging development, drop-test validation, and compliance documentation coordination.

Project Snapshot
Category: Intimate wellness hardware
Product type: Motorized silicone body-contact consumer devices
Market: Russia
My role: Founder / Product Development Lead
Scope: Factory selection, ODM / OEM product customization, supplier coordination, sample validation, packaging engineering, compliance documentation, launch readiness
Core skills: Medical-grade silicone customization, Delta E color control, motor configuration, waterproofing, packaging validation, MSDS / UN38.3 documentation
The Challenge
The client did not need generic factory products. They needed a differentiated product line that could feel more premium, more trustworthy, and more market-ready.
The challenge was to take existing factory platforms and improve the parts that mattered most to the final customer: material feel, color consistency, motor performance, waterproofing, packaging, documentation, and retail presentation.
My Contribution
I helped evaluate supplier platforms, select suitable products, review samples, and coordinate specification changes with factories.
The customization included:
Upgrading the external body-contact silicone from food-grade silicone to medical-grade silicone
Supporting third-party migration testing
Controlling custom silicone color within Delta E < 3
Adjusting vibration frequency and motor capacity
Upgrading the motor configuration with a tungsten-steel eccentric rotor / counterweight
Improving waterproofing requirements from IPX5 to IPX7
Developing customized rigid-box packaging
Reviewing inner tray / insert structure
Coordinating instruction manuals, labels, barcodes, accessories, charging cable placement, and silica gel packet placement
Running packaging drop-test validation
Collecting MSDS / SDS and UN38.3 battery transportation documentation
Process
The project started with factory platform selection. Instead of developing every internal component from zero, we evaluated existing supplier platforms and selected the ones with the best potential for customization.
From there, the work moved into product specification and sample review. The most important product decisions were silicone material, hand feel, color, motor feel, waterproofing, charging interface, packaging fit, and production feasibility.
The packaging system was treated as part of the product experience, not decoration. For intimate wellness products, packaging affects privacy, trust, protection, shipping durability, and perceived quality.
Technical Details
Material: Medical-grade silicone upgrade
Color control: Delta E < 3
Motor: Tungsten-steel eccentric rotor / counterweight configuration
Waterproofing: IPX5 to IPX7 requirement upgrade
Packaging: Rigid gift box, outer carton, inner insert / tray, instruction manual, accessory placement
Validation: Packaging drop test
Documentation: MSDS / SDS, UN38.3 lithium battery transportation documentation, material and migration test reports
What This Project Taught Me
This project confirmed that product development is not always about inventing a new object from zero.
Sometimes the real product-development work is the customization layer between factory platform, user expectation, material safety, motor performance, waterproofing, packaging protection, documentation, and market launch.
That layer is where many physical products either become credible or fall apart.
